![]() After last week’s exposition-heavy setup, today we get an all-action payoff, and it’s exciting and engaging. I didn’t notice any insults today, other than Clawdus calling the lizard-men “filthy beasts” and “cowards”.Īgain, it’s a yes. Finally, at an early stage of the episode, there’s someone who might be Lynxo, but God I hope not. Wilycat and Wilykit get just one scene, and not a very interesting one at that. I’m not sure whether this counts as seeing Panthro or not, because he turns out to have been Mumm-Ra all along. Needless to see, he dies, so I fear we’ll be receiving regular updates from his idiot ghost before long.Īlongside the billions of Thunderian and lizard-men troops, we see Liono, Tigra, Clawdus, Jaga, Snarf, Slythe, Groon, and Mumm-Ra. Once this is done, he tells the others to leave, and turns to make a pointless last stand against Mumm-Ra and Groon. They’re all pelting out of the room, when suddenly Jaga decides to take the time to invest Liono as Lord of the Thundercats and advise him to find the Book of Omens at the Foot of the Setting Sun. They recover the Sword of Omens and the claw shield, and Liono even finds time to win by shouting “Thunder-thunder-Thundercats-ho!” It’s like a school reunion. Mumm-Ra politely enquires whether Jaga might see a way to removing the spell, but Jaga’s not interested.īefore things can get too nasty, Liono and Tigra show up to rescue him and Cheetara, who is also a cleric. Jaga doesn’t deny this, but points out that a spell ensures the Sword cannot be touched by evil, so Mumm-Ra’s not going to get his stone back. #Jaga thundercats seriesthe Eye of Thundera, at least in the 1980s series – belongs to him. According to Mumm-Ra, the stone in the Sword of Omens – i.e. Meanwhile, in the throne room, Mumm-Ra is having a little chat with Jaga. Tigra, obviously, decides the best use of time is to stand around shouting at Liono, but he ends up looking pretty silly when they are released on the sly by one of the lizard-men that Liono saved last week. So Clawdus dies, Thundera falls to the lizards, and Liono and Tigra are locked up. His only reward is a stab in the back: Panthro’s a traitor too! Oh, no, he isn’t: he’s Mumm-Ra in disguise as Panthro. This goes badly, and they are only saved by Liono, who has quickly learned the use of some of the weapons technology he’s bought over the years from that junk shop.Īfter a fair whack of mayhem, Clawdus finally reaches Panthro and releases him. While the clerics engage themselves in blowing up the war machines, Clawdus and Tigra embark on a rescue attempt of Panthro. It would have been a pretty bold reimagining to kill him off without even having met him.Ĭlawdus doesn’t take this deal, and the battle takes a turn for the better when Jaga arrives with a team of clerical warriors, whose principal attribute is that they can run very fast, which leads to some unintentionally amusing animation. Big surprise there: Panthro’s not dead after all. He now explains that he’d like the Sword of Omens, please, and quite reasonably offers to trade Panthro for it. Apparently, while he was on his recent quest, he discovered the technology and decided to use it to further his own ambitions. When all seems lost, Groon suddenly reveals that he is the driving force behind the assault – as if we couldn’t have guessed, given his namesake from the original series. At the same time, huge mechanical giants emerge from the forest – much to the astonishment of the Thundercats, who you may recall don’t believe in technology. Slythe plants explosives in crucial positions around the city, and detonates them once he’s reached a safe distance. While Clawdus, Tigra and Groon occupy themselves with the army of lizard-men outside the gate, they entirely fail to notice a small party of other lizard-men – led by everyone’s favourite, Slythe – infiltrating the city. This is perhaps all for the best, as the battle goes very badly. Clawdus blames Liono, claiming that this is the result of the leniency Liono showed last week when he insisted on the release of those two prisoners, and as a consequence Liono is not permitted to take part in the battle. The episode opens with an assault on the Thundercats’ capital city by a huge army of lizard-men. In which Panthro’s dead, Panthro’s not dead, Panthro’s a traitor, and Panthro is Mumm-Ra. ![]()
